This is Ira's sixth year in professional baseball and second stint with the Colts. The “Voice of the Colts” returns this time as the as Director of Broadcasting & Community Relations for San Angelo. Last time Ira was with the Colts he served as the Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations & Marketing, working the inaugural year of the United League.
He then made the jump to Triple-A as the Director of Community Relations/Marketing for the Sky Sox in Colorado Springs, the Colorado Rockies Triple-A affiliate. He also worked as their On Field Host and Radio Broadcaster.
Ira was the “Face of the Sky Sox” in the Colorado Springs community and joined the Sky Sox radio broadcast, teaming up in the booth with long time Voice of the Sky Sox Voice Dan Karcher.
This past year he also worked for Team Australia as their Media Liaison Officer in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
Ira grew up on Long Island, New York. As a life-long Yankees fan, baseball began shaping his future. After attending the State University of New York at Delhi and Radford University in Virginia, Ira spent time in marketing, promotions, sales, and management but never lost sight of his love for baseball. He decided to pursue baseball when he received a scholarship to the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Ira then went to work for the premier sports talk station in the nation, WFAN. After 5 years of broadcasting Division I baseball, along with some football and basketball for the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he joined the professional ranks.
In 2004, he served as a play-by-play and color analyst for the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Carolina League. In 2005 he was the Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations and the official “Voice of the Oaks”, broadcasting for the Visalia Oaks the Advanced-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the California League.
