Rhomberg, who hails from Mentor, Ohio, originally played for Colts manager Doc Edwards in Sioux Falls, and is not the only member of his family who Doc has managed. Joe’s father, Kevin, a former Major Leaguer with the Indians, also played for Doc in the 80’s with the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Organization. In 11 games last season, Joe batted .238 with five doubles. The 26-year-old began his pro career in 2003 with Sioux Falls of the independent Northern League then played two seasons in the Frontier League (splitting time between Windy City and Richmond) before joining the Colts in 2006. Rhomberg, an excellent fielder, has played every position throughout his career except for pitcher and catcher.
